Meet Our Staff
A great deal of careful planning, training and guidance is given to building the staff of educators and college students who will have an important role in the success of the camping experience for your son. Many of our most experienced staff have been campers and have qualified through our leadership-training program.
Counselor – Camper Experience
At Towering Pines, campers live in cabins with 8-10 other boys of the same age/grade. The counselors live with the same campers throughout the duration of the summer. The staff ratio is 3 counselors to 10 campers.
Certifications
We hire counselors who have certifications and documented experience that qualify them to teach the skills and safety practices for their activity area of expertise. Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard, CPR, AED and First-Aid certifications are the most notable. Check out our Health and Safety Section to learn more about our health standards.
Who We Hire
Our top priority is to hire positive role models for our staff who can nurture, inspire, and lead the campers in their care. Many of the counselors are former campers themselves and want to give young campers the same positive experience they had as campers. Our counselors are devoted to encouraging boys to form relationships, develop a stronger sense of self, and learn new skills, all while having fun!
Counselors that we hire outside of the camping community must be least 19 years old or have completed one year of college (or equivalent). All junior counselors (17-18 years old) that we hire have completed our thorough counselor-in-training leadership program.
I feel ever so strongly that camp is a vital component to building a strong character and a foundation for life. The camps attract children form all over the globe. The setting is just perfect. The staff is highly trained and safety is their number one concern. My children have made everlasting friendships and I believe my decision to send them to camp was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
